Translation of Zhenya’s talk by catts
at 0:12: I love sea and swimming!
at 0:36: "Well, of course, I want to be better and better and better, but we’ll see what will happen"

This video was made by Japanese TV,they went to RUS Croatia training base to film and interview Zhenya at this summer。and made a special edition to put this training clip with Zhenya’s Hoop routine of individual AA Final of WC Mie together。many many thanks to a Japanese friend that he upload this video to youtube, even though this video was removed by youtube right now!

I highly appreciate Japanese’s music taste。They choose a very good song to match the video!and the lyrics suit Zhenya very well!
especially this part:

Don’t let your lights go down
Don’t let your fire burn out
‘Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don’t you rise up now?
Don’t be afraid to stand out
That’s how the lost get found
The lost get found

So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There’s a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it
There’s a girl on the streets, she’s cryin’
There’s a man whose faith is dyin’
Love is calling you

YES, Zhenya is the reason to BELIEVE!

Lyrics

Hello my friend
I remember when you were
So alive with your wide eyes
Then the light that you had in your heart was stolen
Now you say that it ain’t worth stayin’
You wanna run but you’re hesitatin’
I’m talkin’ to me

Don’t let your lights go down
Don’t let your fire burn out
‘Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don’t you rise up now?
Don’t be afraid to stand out
That’s how the lost get found
The lost get found

So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There’s a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it
There’s a girl on the streets, she’s cryin’
There’s a man whose faith is dyin’
Love is calling you

Don’t let your lights go down
Don’t let your fire burn out
‘Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don’t you rise up now?
Don’t be afraid to stand out
That’s how the lost get found
The lost get found

Why do we go with the flow
Or take an easier road?
Why are we playin’ it safe?
Love came to show us the way
Love is a chance we should take
I’m movin’ out of the way

Don’t let your lights go down
Don’t let your fire burn out
‘Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
(Stand out)
Don’t let your lights go down
Don’t let your fire burn out
(Stand out)
‘Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don’t you rise up now?
Don’t be afraid to stand out
That’s how the lost get found
The lost get found

So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There’s a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it

YES, Zhenya is the reason to BELIEVE!

Got Zhenya Kanaeva’s 2nd e-mail, She is like an ANGEL!

After I received Zhenya’s first e-mail, of course I must reply her to say thanks and also I want to congratulate for Zhenya’s big achievement at WC Mie 2009! I ever sent a congratulations letter to the Federation of RUS RG before, but since now I have Zhenya’s e-mail address, so I want to give her the congratulations directly! And I told Zhenya that I and my friend made a space for her welcome her to visit. Also, I ask Zhenya two questions in my letter, first is a silly question: I love Zhenya’s sports shoes that she wore when she was in Korea, it’s so cool! I ask Zhenya the brand of her shoes, hehe. Second is about Zhenya’s 2008 Ribbon music-“Moscow Nights”, so beautiful piano version, I ask her if it is possible to buy the track in Russia, and told her there are many fans want that track eagerly!

10 days later after sending my e-mail, last night I got 2nd e-mail from Zhenya! I am very very happy, in great joy, like in heaven.

Zhenya said she is very busy for training/ competition/ gala stuff don’t have free time to get on internet. So she is very sorry for not responding my e-mail quickly, but she will always appreciate my great support very much, and was very touched by my words.

She answered my 2 questions in a very serious way, told me the brand of her shoes. About “Moscow Nights”, this version was made specifically for the routine, she didn’t know if there is track for sale in Russia, but she will ask for me! Zhenya is really a very kind girl, she always treat me (her fan) with sincere attitude. She is like an ANGEL!

Also, Zhenya said she and her Mom both love this space, and said she hope can understand Chinese! She thanks me and my friend’s great work!

I just felt proud that I am Zhenya’s fan; I am not support the wrong people. Zhenya deserved me to do anything good for her! I will support Zhenya Kanaeva all my life!

This is the shoes that I want to know the brand
=============================================================

Zhenya Kanaeva!

Note by WanWan: Zhenya

Two lovely little stories of Zhenya

photo designed by Joao Lucas

1. Golden Hoop (published on 12 Sep. 2009)
   http://penza.kp.ru/daily/24359/545053/

The first paragraph of this article was about Zhenya’s gold record in WC Mie 2009.
and following is the translation of the 2nd paragraph, a lovely little story which happened in OG 2008

 (translated by catts)

[ I was recalled a lovely episode. 2 days after the OG was ended, at the Beijing airport we met – hard to believe – among all the people there was Zhenya Kanaeva, the champion and the beautiful girl. We saw there was a leather circle in her hand holding, and we noticed that it contained her hoops for the OG. One of these hoops she actually used for her routines. I pretended to speak in a deeper tone (a more senior voice) and asked: “Zhenya, which hoop is the golden one?” And she showed it and said, “here it is and it has won me everything”. “Can you give it to me as a present?”, I asked. And Zhenya Kanaeva gave me the hoop. I thought at that time, “all her hoops are equally covered with gold”. And I was not mistaken. ]

note by WanWan: Zhenya is always so nice and sweet~~

2. Zhenya like to talk with her apparatus!
 (by WanWan)

in general, Zhenya like to talk with her apparatus, treat them as living being.
for example, She will say: why did you drop?? let’s manage to get things done together. Zhenya is so cute~~
I read this from an interview of last year (2008), but I forgot the link.

===========================================================================================
Chinese Translation by Zoe Wan (zhenya0402)

Golden Hoop

2. Zhenya

Article: Kanaeva always applies this principle-winner or loser

Kanaeva’s first coach, Elena Arais with little Zhenya~so cute

Another piece, which is an interview of Kanaeva’s first trainer, Elena Arais. Enjoy the read.

——————-

Six gold medals were won in the city of Mie (Japan) by the Olympic Champion, the ‘Deserved Master of Sports’, Evgenia Kanaeva. ‘Isn’t Evgenia Kanaeva quite a phenomenon?’ We asked the ‘Deserved Trainer of Russia’, Elena Arais – the daughter of the gymnast’s current trainer Vera Shtelbaums. Elena met Zhenya 14 years ago when she was five years old.

Q: You had trained Zhenya for almost seven years. How did you notice in the 5-years-old girl that she was to become the future RG star?
A: You first need to accept that there are a lot of talented children out there. However, sadly and unfortunately, not each of them manages to fully develop the talent. Nowadays, all people admire the skill of the Olympic champion Zhenya Kanaeva, but only a few have acknowledged the fantastic work capacity of this girl who possesses endurance and boldness. Besides, she is capable of thinking and analyzing – which is extremely important. I do not know … maybe, the Kanaev family also has been a factor. Zhenya’s mum, Svetlana, is the Master of Sports in RG, and her dad, Oleg, is the international arbitrator of Greek-Roman wrestling. Right from the beginning Zheneya was trained persistently and , certainly, it was necessary to notice how her ability was being developed through training. Results came soon enough. In thirteen years she was able to become the leader in Russia, and even within the first five years she was among the strongest in our region.

Q: Perhaps, this is what is called ‘a golden small fish’, a gift-of-a-life-time which all trainers dream of. What have made Kanaeva such a phenomenon?
A: I have already listed the qualities which Zhenya possesses. I can only add that in RG we aspire to make difficult routines. Beauty is important but the sport is indispensable from the addition of complicated elements. And during competitions, frequently – due to the fear of not being able to do certain elements – the gymnasts tend to simplify their routines. Sometimes they even appear to be defensive. Their thoughts are that: if execute cleanly, good result can be achieved even by doing a simplified routine. But Zhenya is different from them that she never simplifies her routines. I would say that she was a brave little girl. She always applies the principle ‘winner or loser’. This quality has already distinguished her from others since her first steps in RG. Zhenya always trained with great joy. I remember how this little girl’s grandmother Irina Aleksandrovne waited long outside the training hall. She lived and lives RG. Once again I want to emphasize: ‘there are a lot of talented children, but there are only a few with both talent and diligence’.

Q: Perhaps, Zhenya has done it all. Well-known gymnasts such as Alina Kabaeva and Irina Tchachina have retired. There is no more serious competitor.
A: What are you talking about? What about the absolute world champion Olga Kapranova? And the absolute European champion Vera Sesina? And Ukrainian Anna Bessonova? And how much more work and endurance Zhenya still needs to show in order to get a place in the Russian OG team? Was Zhenya’s every single victory given to her easily? No. She is by right the strongest. Her routines are very difficult, and she executes them excellently.

Q: Elena Nikolaevna, please allow me to ask this tricky question: Many people now have the impression that unconditional victories for the Omsk gymnast has begun to irritate not only the competitors, but even the head trainer of the Russian national team Irina Aleksandrovna Viner. It is fair to comment that before the Beijing Olympic Games Viner highly rated her gymnasts Sesina and Kapranova.
A: You what? How victories can irritate the head trainer of the national team? After all Zhenya Kanaeva won Russia a gold medal in Beijing. No. Irina Aleksandrovna is indeed very attentive, benevolent and caring toward Zhenya. Therefore, there is no proof of such rumour, and the atmosphere in the national team is good.

Q: You have transferred Zhenya to your mum Vera Efremovna Shtelbaums. Are you looking for new talents at the moment?
A: We simply work. There is a very good structure of trainers in the Center of Olympic Preparation – as well as many talented little girls, and we are determined to train up new RG stars. For now, certainly, we are proud of Zhenya.

Remarks:
Evgenia Kanaeva has broken the record of the number of gold medals won in one single RG World Championship – which lasted 17 years. Having won 6 gold medals in the WC in Japan, the girl from Omsk has surpassed Oksana Kostina’s achievement in Brussels 1992, in which she won five gold medals.

Kanaeva

Remarks:

Received Zhenya Kanaeva’s e-mail, I felt like crying…

I wanna say:ZHENYA,I LOVE YOU !!!
Thank youThanks your Mom and Dad and Thanks Shtelbaums!

Article: To surpass Kabaeva, only Kanaeva is capable

This beautiful photo was published originally here: http://krass.livejournal.com/616836.html

Article was originally written in Russian by Shulga Nadezhda on 29.09.2009; published on http://www.sobesednik.ru/publications/sobesednik/2009/09/37/kanaeva_sob_37_2009/

—————

Since last year she has not lost in any tournament. And in the recent World Championship she has won all six gold medals – having surpassed Alina Kabaeva. Irina Viner believes that her name should be recorded in the Book of Guinness. However, Zhenya herself will not stop going further.

She could not be kept away from the gymnasium
——————————————————————

It is impossible to find a day when she is not stretching, practicing and tossing the apparatus. Having returned from Japan to native city Omsk, she has been going to the gymnasium. She first received some physio-treatment (ie. massage). Afterward she started warming up, and then training. The youngsters there watched every movement of the champion with open mouths. Then, it appeared that Zhenya helped correct one girl’s mistakes, and assisted another girl in her routine.

‘Evgenia does not have her own hall or carpet, and therefore she is training with everyone and with everything,’ Kanaeva’s first trainer Elena Arais told "Interlocutor (the new of the magazine/journal)". ‘But since 2002 our RG centre has been given good German carpet. In the early days we rented a small hall in the ‘Ice palace’, where Zhenya’s grandmother waited long hours for the 5-year-old Zhenya in the dark.’

During her childhood the biggest problem was to keep Zhenya away from the gymnasium. During her time as a schoolgirl in the 2nd Grade, she would come for training at 9am and leavet just 5 minutes prior to the beginning of the first school lesson. While other young gymnasts had already left for school for a long time, Kanaeva practiced and practiced in order to master the new elements. It is good that the ‘palace’ was only a short distance away from her school.

‘At age 8 she was the winner of “Supreme Armed forces (possibly the name of an award)”,’ Elena Arais recalled. ‘She was very brave – in the sense that she never abandoned the difficult things from a routine … even if she had not mastered the element before the competitions. When she got nervous, she would calms herself down by thinking that she was not in an important competition but an ordinary regional event.’

The same happened in Beijing. Before her final ribbon routine, Zhenya got nervous when she suddenly realized she was in the Olympic Games. It is thus necessary for her trainer Vera Shtelbaums to joke to her by saying, ‘this is not the Olympic Games, but a home-base practice session’. Kanaeva then laughed, recomposed and won.

State of emergency on the train
——————————————

Many people may be jealous of Zhenya – a 19-year-old girl – that she has got it all. Due to her victory in Beijing, the President presented her a BMW, the governor of Omsk allocated her an apartment – and she also has an one-room apartment in Moscow, and some time this week she will go with her mum to Paris for a week holiday – a place where she visited herself last year. However, for 19 years this child has gone through so many tests, too many that some other people may not even have that many in their whole lives. At age 8 she had the opportunity to travel by train with reserved seats to take part in competitions in the Omsk region, Volgograd, Samara etc.. In fact, for a group of 15-20 children to travel by plane was simply an expensive luxury. Somehow, while on the train, in the middle of the night the small Zhenya woke up the trainer by saying, ‘Elena Nikolaevna (Arais), please get up!’ It appeared that a young man was confused in the dark and climbed up to Zhenya’s space on the second shelf without noticing there was a child. Gradually he ‘got rid’ of her. Certainly, in the end everything was sorted out but the incident was remembered.

‘Zhenya always was the first to help others,’ her childhood trainer (Arais) said with amazement. ‘We traveled on a train, and she woke me up early in the morning. With her came a more senior girl – by a year or two – whom she held her hands. The "little" Zhenya then told me that the "big" was ill – whether it was a stomach problem or a headache – I do not remember already. By this, it is sure that her sense of responsibility has nothing to do with her age.’

At age 12 Kanaeva was taken away to Moscow. At this age many children still played in a court yard, but she had already lived in the Center of Olympic Preparation. Certainly, there were tutors looking after the youngsters but the situation was not comparable to a family and a home. It was a test of character. Zhenya always found it easy to talk with others as she was so sociable. Everywhere she went she made friends with boys and girls.

The kefir ambassador
——————————

She has continually been called to appear on television, but Zhenya refuses and prefers to spend 8-10 hours per day in the gymnasium. Recently she has declined the invitation to participate in ‘The Big Races’ on Channel 1. However, she is open toward doing advertising. Kanaeva is the representative of the well-known Swiss watch firm Longines – previous representatives include Kabaeva and Khorkina, and during the World Championship in Japan Zhenya was asked to become ‘the kefir ambassador’.

‘The fact is that Japan has begun to promote our Russian kefir, and I was simply invited to talk about it and to advertise it,’ Zhenya told "Interlocutor". ‘To the Japanese, our drink has the right taste. But my face does not appear on the kefir’s packaging.’

The Olympic champion also does not refuse unique shows as far as gymnastics is related. It is a pity that in Russia no such show was arranged. As a result, Kanaeva basically performs in front of foreign spectators. For example, after Japan – instead of returning home straight away – she went to South Korea to take part in the gala show.

‘I was part of the most beautiful show, together with sportive gymnasts, acrobats, stuntmen …’ Zhenya said with admiration. ‘For example, there were gymnasts such as Elena Zamolodchikova and Ivan Ivankov. It was very interesting, the hall was packed, and the audience’s reaction was great!

Nevertheless, this year in Russia Zhenya will have the chance to do a performance under a similar setting as there will be a gala concert during the Cup of Russia in Kazan.

In the mean time, Kanaeva is still in the middle of her one-week break in Omsk. It is necessary for her to take time to decorate and equip the apartment which was presented by the governor last year, to get together with friends and other folks, as well as to pass examinations in order to be qualified as a trainer.

‘Certainly, the tutors do come around to check, and they understand how much we train,’ Zhenya said. ‘However, it is not the moment for me to be engaged in serious education because I am not used to receiving ‘a tick’ by not studying properly.’

Having won the Olympic Games at 18 and six gold medals in the World Championship at 19, in terms of records Kanaeva has surpassed the well-known Alina Kabaeva. With such outstanding achievement, the present RG school in Omsk has been promised that a new section for spectators will built into the existing compound. However, although Omsk is proud of being the birthplace of RG champions such as Galima Shugurova, Irina Tchachina and now Zhenya Kanaeva, none of their names has yet been assigned to name any school, street or sporting facility. From Japan Zhenya brought home all 6 gold medals – will one of them somehow be kept in a museum? And earlier on there was an exhibition showing the RG leotards which were worn by some of the most successful students of the Omsk RG school during their competition days. Perhaps, by seeing these leotards, the little girls will be inspired to pursue the joy of being champions!

Zhenya has not lived in Omsk for 7 years, but her grandmother Irina Aleksandrovna – until recently – has never missed any local competitions, and she accurately keeps a record of her granddaughter’s results. Irina Aleksandrovna has already introduced her daughter Svetlana to RG – who had become the ‘Master of Sports’; and now granddaughter Zhenya even has gone a step further than her mum by winning the Olympic Games. So, can the secret of Zhenya Kanaeva’s victories be discovered in her grandmother – who is madly in love with RG?

Evgenia Kanaeva: I am a rhythmic gymnast because of my grandmother

Originally written in Russian by Nastenko George, published on 1 October 2009. English text is translated and edited by catts.
http://www.trud.ru/article/01-10-2009/229680_evgenija_kanaeva_v_gimnastiku_menja_privela_babushka.html

Russian gymnast Evgenia Kanaeva won all 6 gold medals in the World Championship in Japan. The correspondent of «Труда-7» had the chance to talk with this unique 19-year-old sportswoman whose outstanding achievement should be included in the Book of Guinness Records.

Q: I heard that the reason why you are in gymnastics is because of your grandmother. And why is it not because of your mum?
A: Honestly speaking, I don’t usually think about it much. Generally, at that sport school where I used to attend training, almost all my friends in gymnastics were there because of their grandmothers. Probably, our mothers had been so much occupied by work and thus simply could not bring the children to attend training at the RG school.

Q: Is it true that your mum was against you doing RG?
A: For sure you were mistaken! Your colleagues-journalists have exaggerated it. Actually my mum never opposed it, but at the beginning she was rather skeptical concerning my prospects in RG. After all, during her time as a gymnast she was not bad, and she even achieved the rank ‘Master of Sports’. However, somehow something prevented her to go further. In Omsk, the competitions were very strong during her time. Anyway, mum did not go to physical training institution after she ended her sporting career. Instead, she went to the institute of foreign languages. Now her work is connected with tourist business and avia-transportations.

Q: Does your mum give her suggestions on your training/performance?
A: Mum watches my performance wherever she is able to. But regarding to the execution of this or that element, as they say, she does not intervene with her suggestions. Yet, sometimes she gives very competent remarks from which I benefit. Well, of course, before and after every competition I would talk with her on the phone, and she is always very supportive to me. Mum is able to find the necessary words to keep me calm.

Q: Does she also teach you English?
A: Yes, it is possible to say that, instead of having a language tutor, my mum teaches me. In general, I am not usually at home but she tries to take every opportunity as much as possible. And sometimes she even gives me individual assignments during my trips. Nevertheless, as my English language is far from perfect, consequently it is more convenient for me to communicate with other competitors and colleagues from the nearby countries – Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Baltic. After all, these girls speak in Russian. By the way, the Italian gymnasts know some Russian words. The fact is that they are trained by our countryman Olga Tishin.

Q: Among the competitors, have you established some good friendly relationship with anyone of them?
A: Of course. In our type of sport, rivalry goes hand-in-hand with the composition of a complicated but interesting routine. I take no delight in taking advantage of the mistakes of other gymnasts. And I sincerely wish all rhythmic gymnasts to be successful. Of course, I feel most attached to the sportswomen (gymnasts) in the Russian national team.

Q: Will you take part in any other competitions this year?
A: When the WC in Japan finally finished, I felt so shattered … more than what I had ever experienced in any other previous competitions. I almost was certain that I wanted to stop taking part in future competitions, and even quit training for a few months. I just could not take it anymore. And then, during the gala show in Seoul (South Korea), I could feel the nervous tension previously on me was gone gradually. After all, there was much less pressure in this type of gala shows than in a championship and a World Cup. So, even before my arrival to Moscow, I already had begun to feel much better – first of all, psychologically. And then I had talks with my personal trainer Vera Shtelbaums and the head trainer of the Russian national team Irina Viner. As a result, it has been decided that after my 2-weeks break, I will start preparing for competitions. For this year, I will participate in competitions which will take place in Kazan, Germany and Italy. And before the New Year holiday, I am going to attend the International Memorial of our remarkable Omsk trainer – Galina Gorenkova, which will take place in Omsk.

Q: RG champions such as Kabaeva, Bessonova and Kanaeva often attract a set of fans including men. Is it possible for them to be informed that Kanaeva’s heart is not attached to anyone?
A: At the moment, my heart is really free. But, nevertheless, all my thoughts for the near future are attached to my aspiration to new victories in competitions. It is necessary to hurry up. After all, in our kind of sport our career can only last for a short while. This is what RG is like.

Our file:

Olga Tishin.

A: 當然.
