NIGHTS BETWEEN MOSCOW AND LENINGRAD
“Moscow Nights” is a well-known song, which was written by Vasily Solyev-Sedoy and Michael Matusovsky after the World War II. One of the authors was born in Leningrad, and at first he wanted to call the song “Leningrad Nights”.
The song became very popular in 1957 after the International Youth Festival which was held in Moscow. That time the song became an anthem of the festival and touched the hearts not only of Soviet people, but also the hearts of many foreigners. “Moscow Nights” is translated to many languages, but the real sense of it you can feel when listening to the original lyrics. So why not trying to sing it in Russian? Here we go with a short part. Have fun!
By the way, there is an interesting story how Zhenya decided to choose ”Moscow Nights” for her Ribbon 2008. Before the season 2008 Irina Viner – head coach of Russian National Team – went to China and visited one restaurant. At the door of the restaurant there was a bell singing the melody of Moscow Nights. And she says that every time when somebody entered the restaurant, all the visitors would start to smile and sing the song together with the melody. So this way she understood that Moscow Nights is a right song for the Olympic Program for China. On her return to Novogorsk she said: ”Zhenya, I know which music we shall choose for your ribbon!” And I must tell you she was 100% RIGHT!

Песня слышится и не слышится}
Not even a whisper is to be heard in the garden,
Everything has calmed down until dawn.
If you only knew how dear they are to me,
The evenings near Moscow!
The river is moving and (sometimes) not, All made of the moons silver.
A song sounds and is not to be heard In those quiet evenings.
Why do you, darling, look at me from the side,
Bending your head so low?
It is not easy to tell
All the things that are in my heart.
And dawn is getting more and more visible.
So, please, be so kind: You, also, dont forget
These summer evenings near Moscow.
Below’s videos the singer all is the original singer-Vladimir Troshin
This one is not the full version-without 3rd part
Note by WanWan: so according the story that Alyona wrote how Zhenya decided to choose this song for her ribbon music 2008. Then Maybe Viner already had this decision she wanted to let Zhenya to Beijing before season 2008, because “Moscow Nights” is a very popular song in China, it’s significant for several generations, many Chinese grow up with this song! and Viner gave this music to Zhenya not to Sesina!
================================================
Video-Georg OTS
With his extraordinary voice (over four octaves), he was in the 1993 Guinness Book of Records: http://books.google.fr/books?id=3XGAeFx2EiIC&q=Ivan+Rebroff&dq=Ivan+Rebroff&lr=&pgis=1BTW: Here\’s a version of the song Kalinka by Rebroff (Evgenia has used the song 2007 for rope): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSiFASGKjBI
Thank you Michel!!!His voice is so vigorous, deep and powerful. (in Chinese 非常低沈, 渾厚有力)so different with Zhenya\’s short piano version and the image of her routine 🙂
Just found on Youtube: A Russian version of "Moscow Nights" from the very well-known German singer Ivan Rebroff (in real Hans Rolf Rippert, 1931-2008). He sang Russian folk songs for 40 years in German and Russian. Gorbachev even invited him for a concert in Moscow.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dOFTcuvdP0&playnext_from=TL&videos=dT4u_6Aklho&playnext=1

Thanks for everything you do for us all and for Zhenya! I love you very much and I am proud to be your friend!
Now somebody must write here the Spanish version (and Portuguese?), then we might have all languages of the native speakers here. Slowly the page becomes really international 🙂
Michel, thank you very much for the German lyrics 🙂
Since we now have the russian, english & chinese version of the song, I write here the german (here can even two read german). It should be said, that there are several versions, some rhyme more, some are more a literal translation. This version sounds and rhymes in my opinion the best. It based on the english translation.

By the way, there is an interesting story how Zhenya decided to choose \’\’Moscow Nights\’\’ for her Ribbon 2008. Sure, Zoe! You are always welcome! The song is really wonderful and it would be great if more people could learn it and this way continue it\’s legacy))))
BILLION THANKS – My Dear Friend Alyonka!I love sooo much this song, and now I can sign it in Russian! I am very happy 😀 Thank you again! <333
