Evgenia arrived to Omsk from Minsk where XXVII RG EC finished recently. Kanaeva collection of precious metals was replenished with new ones: 3 gold medals (hoop and ribbon, + team competition). Omsk gymnast and her coach Vera Shtelbaums received honorary sport award “Valour” («Доблесть» – “Doblest’”) yesterday, and after Zhenya met with journalists.

Days off on the airplane.
-Zhenya, does that “upper limit” of perfection exist at all?
-Honestly speaking, I’m not very happy with my performances in Minsk. It’s very difficult to evaluate myself because I don’t see myself from the side. But when I’m watching videos of my performances I don’t like many things, there are still mistakes. Probably, it’s that kind of “call” which tells you that you need to work more intensively. You can’t stop on what was achieved; you have to create something new all the time. Everyone is training, preparing, doing their best…

-At the age of 21 it’s just possible to go crazy from all this pressure. Are you getting tired too much?
-And who isn’t? Everybody works and I’m used to these loads. Of course, there are moments happen when it seems: that’s all! I can’t anymore! But it passes. Our sport is very young which means that career will be over after 20 years old. I treasure what I have now. I’m trying to do my best to finish honorably last years in this sport.

-With all that endless sequence of competition do you have free time left? For your friends, love?
-Everything is fine with love! (smiling). And with friends. I have one day off during week.

-How was your last day off?
-I spent it on the airplane from Moscow to Omsk. But I’m home for one day only. Then I’ll fly to Korea for 10 days, there’s exhibition show of gymnastics stars. There are no serious competitions next 2 months. Summer Universiade will be hold in Chine in the august, then Grand-Prix in Berlin – last start before World Championship, and world cups stages. But I will have 1 week off.

-Where are you planning to spend your vacation?
-There where is sunny!

“Nocturnal” gymnastics.
-Zhenya, is it disappointing that there are only hockey and soccer in our TV and rhythmic gymnastics is kind of forgotten?
-Yes, it is. When World Championship took place in Moscow last year many people didn’t know about it. There was no live broadcast on TV, just satellite one at night. I don’t understand why they show rhythmic gymnastics after midnight when all children who is in this sport are sleeping already.

-Are you fan of any other sport?
-I’m fan of any sport where are Russian people competing. Go Russia!

-Do you have any plans for upcoming Olympics in London?
-Yes, I’m doing my best to be there. But I’m trying to live by today.

-Have you thought what will you do after finishing your career?
-I’ll think about it when I finish it.
